Ma recherche se concentre sur le passage entre l'économie de chasse-cueillette et l'économie de production, c'est-à-dire l'origine de l'agriculture au Proche-Orient. Elle se base sur les données archéobotaniques provenant des résultats d'analyse de restes végétaux carbonisés datant du début du Néolithique entre 11 500 et 10 000 BP cal.
Cette recherche permet de comprendre, non seulement l'histoire de la domestication des plantes, mais également l'histoire du milieu naturel dans lequel l'homme agit et en particulier le déboisement. Les sites en question sont les suivants : Jerf el Ahmar, Cheikh Hassan, Dja'de, Tell Qaramel ,Tell Ab'r, Asikli Höyük et Tell Aswad. Cette recherche constitue un projet à long terme qui nécessite une étude de la flore actuelle, la mise au point de critères de détermination et de l'expérimentation. Ainsi l'étude archéobotanique s'associe-t-elle à d'autres disciplines comme la zoologie, la géoarchéologie, les analyses géochimiques, l'ADN et la palynologie. Nous avons constitué une banque d'images avec plus de 500 photo numériques des morphotypes fossiles, accessible sur le web.
