Abstract :Animal exploitation during the third and the Second millennium BC is discussed throughout the new excavated finds from Sidon ‘College site’, Tell Arqa and Tell Kazel in the northern Levant. A diversity of fauna and biotopes are attested by hunting, fishing and shellfishing activities, on a different scale, all the way through the Bronze Age. The dietary and food economy are based on animal husbandry with a specialisation on caprine, bovine and swine breeding. The management of the livestock and the economy of the Levantine society are influenced by several environmental, climatic and socio-cultural elements. Animal size and slenderness are subject to change during the Bronze Age as a response to multiple causes such as management technique, climate change or as result of mixed population. Mortuary practices related to animal offering inside burials are analysed as well in this study. A general synthesis about funerary deposits in the Levant is conducted with a special emphasis on Sidon Middle Bronze Age graves in the Lebanon.
