Travaux en cours

* Direction du Volcanological and Archaeological Program for Obsidian Research (VAPOR), Yémen. Collaboration entre l’Archéorient, l’IRAMAT – CNRS (B. Gratuze) et l’Université de Cambridge (C. Oppenheimer).

Ce projet a pour but la constitution d’une base de données enregistrant les caractéristiques géochimiques des obsidiennes (échantillons géologiques et archéologiques), référentiel qui puisse permettre d’évaluer les circulations de l’obsidienne au cours de l'Holocène. Il importe également d’étudier l’activité volcanique qui s’est produite à cette période et ses effets sur les populations préhistoriques occupant les deux rives de la mer Rouge.
• trois missions de terrain consacrées à l’identification et l’échantillonnage des gîtes d’obsidienne sur les hauts plateaux yéménites
• trois missions de terrain consacrées à l’identification et l’échantillonnage des gîtes d’obsidienne dans la région des lacs Ziway, Langano et Abiyata, vallée du Rift Ethiopien (dans le cadre de la mission « Late Stone Age sequence in Ethiopia » dirigée par F. Bon (Université de Toulouse, le Mirail – UMR TRACES), et A. Dessie (ARCCH)).

• analyses par LA-HR-ICP-MS d’artefacts en obsidienne de plus d’une centaine de sites archéologiques en Arabie et en Afrique.
