Conférence de Marta d'Andrea (Associate Professor, Sapienza University of Rome), invitée par le laboratoire Archéorient. La conférence s’intitule : "Researching and Presenting the Early Bronze Age at the Archaeological site of Khirbat Iskandar, Jordan"
Affiche (.pdf)
Khirbat Iskandar is a signature Early Bronze Age site in Jordan. Until a few years ago it was better known for the later Early Bronze Age, the non-urban Early Bronze IV period of the southern Levant. However, recent excavations and surveys at the site and its environs over the past seasons are gradually bringing into focus a longer developmental trajectory that spans most of the Early Bronze Age, starting from Early Bronze I in the fourth millennium BCE and continuing into the following Early Bronze II, III, and IV throught the third millennium BCE. Through these times Khirbat Iskandar first became one of the earliest fortified urban settlements in Jordan, and then, following destructions and crisis, it transitioned to a rural village until its final abandonment. These discoveries may have an impact on better understanding developments in the southern Levantine Early Bronze Age from the particular point of view of Jordan. As research at the site progresses, the team is also engaging in sustainable ways of conserving and preserving the site, as well as in finding efficient ways to present it to the public.
